What this tool does
The Image Editor is a lightweight tool for two of the most common photo fixes: rotation and brightness. It is designed for quick corrections — a photo taken sideways, a scan that came out too dark, a product shot that needs a small lift — without opening a full photo-editing application. The result is downloaded as a PNG.
Rotating without quality loss
Rotation by 90° is mathematically lossless when the output format is PNG, which is what this tool uses. Unlike JPEG, PNG stores the image as a grid of pixels with no compression artefacts, so a 90° rotation produces exactly the same pixels in a different arrangement. If you need to rotate by an angle that is not a multiple of 90° (say, to straighten a tilted horizon), use a full editor with an angle slider — small rotations require interpolation and cannot be perfectly lossless.
Adjusting brightness
The brightness slider multiplies each pixel's RGB values by a factor. At 100% the image is unchanged; above 100% it gets brighter; below 100% it gets darker. Unlike the "exposure" control in a full editor, this is a simple linear scale, so highlights can clip to pure white if you push it far. For most photos, 110–125% is a comfortable lift; 140%+ starts to wash out the highlights. For a dark scan, try 130–150%.
When to use a full photo editor instead
This tool does not adjust contrast, colour balance, saturation, sharpening, cropping, or distortion. If you need any of those, use a proper photo editor — Photoshop, GIMP, Photopea (free, browser-based), or your phone's built-in photo app. The tools on LocalCut Studio are designed to do one thing well rather than imitate a full editor.
Common questions
Does the tool preserve the original file? Yes — the editor works on a copy and downloads a new PNG. Your original is untouched.
Can I rotate by a specific angle? Not in this version. Rotation is fixed at 90° increments.
Is my image uploaded? No. All processing is in your browser.
