Important disclaimer
This tool performs a centre-crop of your photo. It does not detect the face, does not adjust head size, does not check eye position, and does not verify background colour or expression. Passport photo requirements are strict and vary by authority (Indian passport, US passport, Schengen visa, driving licence, etc.). Use this tool to prepare a print-sized crop, then verify against the official specification of the authority you are applying to before submitting.
What this tool does
Given a portrait photo, the tool crops it to an exact print dimension (35×45 mm, 2×2 inches, 35×35 mm, or a custom size), sets the output resolution (DPI), and produces two downloads: a single photo file and an A4 sheet containing the number of copies you choose. Both files are generated in your browser; the original photo is not uploaded.
Common photo sizes
- 35 × 45 mm — common for Indian passport, PAN card, and many Indian government applications.
- 2 × 2 inches (51 × 51 mm) — US passport and US visa.
- 35 × 35 mm — used by some European authorities and certain visa forms.
- Custom — enter width and height in millimetres if your authority requires a different size.
DPI and print quality
A passport photo printed at 300 DPI has more than enough detail for official use; 600 DPI is even sharper but produces larger files. 150 DPI is acceptable for digital submission but marginal for printing. The tool converts millimetres to pixels using the DPI you choose, so a 35×45 mm photo at 300 DPI becomes 413 × 531 pixels.
Building an A4 sheet
Most photo labs print on A4 paper even when you only need a few copies, so the tool lays out your chosen number of copies (4, 8, 12 or 16) on an A4 canvas with small gaps for cutting. If the selected copy count does not fit at the chosen size and DPI, the tool reports the maximum that fits — for example, 35×45 mm at 300 DPI fits 16 photos on one A4 sheet.
Common questions
Does this replace a photo studio? For simple, compliant photos in good lighting, yes. For complex requirements (children, glasses, uniforms, specific head size), a professional studio is safer.
Does it remove the background? Not automatically. Use our Background Remover first if you need a plain white background.
Is my photo uploaded? No. Everything is processed in your browser.
