Important โ€” read this first

This tool is a manual clone brush for retouching images you own or have permission to edit. It is not an automatic AI inpainting tool, and it is not a way to remove copyright notices, watermarks or attribution from someone else's work. Doing that may be illegal in many jurisdictions and violates our terms of use. If the image isn't yours, get permission from the copyright owner first โ€” or use the image as it was published.

How the clone brush works

The clone brush copies pixels from one part of the image to another. You first click Select clone source, then click a clean area of the image that looks like what should be under the mark โ€” a patch of wall, sky, fabric or skin. Then you drag over the mark. As you drag, the tool copies the source patch along the path of your brush, blending naturally into the surrounding pixels.

When it works well (and when it doesn't)

Clone-stamp retouching is very effective on uniform or softly textured backgrounds: solid walls, skies, skin, plain fabric, water. It struggles on complex textures that the eye can recognise โ€” text, facial features, foliage, busy patterns โ€” because the source patch rarely matches the surrounding area perfectly, and mismatched patches look artificial. For those cases, a content-aware fill in a full image editor (Photoshop, GIMP, Photopea) will do better.

Step-by-step

  1. Load the image you are authorised to edit.
  2. Click Select clone source, then click a clean patch near the mark.
  3. Adjust the brush size with the slider.
  4. Drag over the mark. Use Undo if a stroke looks wrong.
  5. Click Download cleaned image when you are satisfied.

Legal reminder

Copyright notices and watermarks are placed on images to identify the creator and to protect their rights. Removing them from content you do not own โ€” even if you can technically do it โ€” is usually copyright infringement and may violate the platform where you publish the result. Use this tool only on your own images, on client images where the client has authorised retouching, or on images released under a licence that permits modification.
